A single vehicle crash in the community of Gheens killed a Lockport man and injured a 16 year old.
Jacob Chaisson (W/M, 20, of Lockport, LA) was driving a 2003 Buick Rendezvous east on LA 654 when his vehicle left the road to the right and overturned several times. He and his passenger (16 year old female from Raceland, LA) were not wearing their seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle and ejected occupants came to rest off the road in a cane field.
Chaisson received critical injuries and was transported to Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital by Acadian Ambulance. Chaisson died later at the hospital. Arabie received moderate injuries and was transported to Terrebonne General by Acadian Ambulance.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Blood was drawn from Chaisson and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Charges in the crash are pending.
