Who said there’s no such thing as a free lunch? Or breakfast, for that matter.
St. Mary Community Action will offer free lunches and in a few areas, free breakfast, to all students parish wide from June 7 through July 16.
The agency will provide free lunches, five days a week, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Breakfast, where noted, will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
In east St. Mary Parish, children can go to any one of these sites to get a free lunch: in Amelia, at J.S. Aucoin Elementary School, 739 Julia Street; in Siracusaville, at the Siracusa Recreation Center, 1106 Grace Street, for breakfast and lunch; Morgan City, at Maitland Elementary, 1907 Federal Ave; in Bayou Vista, at the Bayou Vista Community Center, 1333 Belleview Street; and in Patterson, at Patterson Jr. High School, 1101 First Street, for breakfast and lunch.
In west St. Mary Parish, children can go to: the St. Mary Parish Alternative Center, 131 Clausen Rd South in Franklin; in Baldwin at the Mickey Mouse Head Start Center, 801 M.L.K. Street, for breakfast and lunch; in Charenton, at JUD Hall, 3041 Chitimacha Trail, for breakfast and lunch; and in Jeanerette, at the West St. Mary Civic Center, 1498 Hwy 318, for breakfast and lunch.
All of the above sites will be open except on July 5, for the Independence Holiday.
Almetra J Franklin, director of the St. Mary Community Action, said the program is open to all children, regardless of race, color, gender, national origin, or disability.
“In this season, with the recession, our fishermen whose livelihoods are affected because of the oil spill, it’s a blessing that we’re able to provide this opportunity to any child,” Franklin said.
