St Mary Sheriff's 6/17

According to Sheriff David Naquin during the last 24 hours the Sheriff’s Office responded to 33 complaints and reports the following arrests:

Nathan Jones 51 yoa of 1509 Cherry St., Patterson was arrested on 6-16-2009 at 12:54 pm for Theft by Shoplifting. Deputy was called to Wal-mart in Bayou Vista in reference to a shoplifter. Upon Deputy’s arrival it was learned from Wal-mart security that above suspect was attempting to walk out of store with merchandise valued at $140.00. Suspect was detained by security. After investigation suspect was placed under arrest and issued a summons to appear in court on 9-9-2009.

Rachel N. Carbins 24 yoa of 436 Leo Dr., Patterson was arrested on 6-16-2009 at 6:04 pm for Remaining Where Forbidden, Disturbing the Peace Obscene Language, Criminal Trespassing, Resisting an Officer with Force, Battery on a Police Officer and Threatening a Public Official. Deputy was called to Wal-mart in reference to a shoplifter. Upon Deputy’s arrival store security was walking suspect from the store and she was causing a disturbance. Upon Deputy speaking with security, he was advised that suspect was with another suspect who was caught shoplifting and she began causing a disturbance. Deputy arrested above suspect and placed her under arrest at which time she began resisting and committed a battery upon Deputy. Suspect was booked into the parish jail with a $4250.00 bond and was later released.

Toris Smith 45 yoa of 436 Leo Dr., Patterson and a Female Juvenile 15 yoa were arrested on 6-16-2009 at 6:12 pm with Toris Smith being charged with Simple Battery and Resisting an Officer and Juvenile being charged with Theft by Shoplifting. Deputy was called to Wal-mart in reference a shoplifter. Upon Deputy’s arrival it was learned from security that juvenile was caught concealing items in a bag and was detained. During investigation juveniles father arrived at scene and began committing a battery on the juvenile. Toris Smith was placed under arrest and had to be physically restrained. After investigation Juvenile was placed under arrest and released to guardian pending juvenile court proceedings and Toris Smith was booked into the parish jail with a $1500.00 bond and was later released.

The St. Mary Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force, consisting of St. Mary Sheriff Dept., Morgan City Police Dept., Patterson Police Department Franklin Police Dept., Baldwin Police Dept., Berwick Police Dept., and Chitimacha Police Dept., report the following arrests:

Demarcus Kemp 20 yoa of 458 Verdun Lane, Verdunville was arrested on 6-16-2009 at 6:47 pm for Driving Left of Center, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Resisting an Officer. Agents of the Narcotics Task Force were patrolling Verdun Lane, when they observed suspect vehicle driving in the middle of roadway and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Suspect the driver of the vehicle exited the vehicle while it was moving and fled on foot with Agents giving chase. Suspect was observed dropping a bag containing several rocks of crack cocaine when he exited the vehicle. While suspect was running he was observed throwing several bags of marijuana. Suspect was apprehended and narcotics recovered. During a search of the vehicle Agents located a money box containing $210.00 in cash and drug paraphernalia. After investigation suspect was placed under arrest and booked into the parish jail with no bond at this time.

Leonard Ceasar 24 yoa of 205 MLK Blvd., Baldwin was arrested on 6-16-2009 at 9:56 pm for Possession of Marijuana and Resisting an Officer. Agents of the Narcotics Task Force were patrolling the Baldwin area when they observed several subjects standing on the side of roadway on Lockett St… Agents exited their unit and two of the suspects began to run with Agents giving chase. Agents apprehended above suspect when he fell to the ground. Upon searching suspect’s person two bags of marijuana was located. Suspect was placed under arrest and booked into the parish jail with a $3000.00 bond and was later released.
