ST MARY PARISH COUNCIL 6/10

BREAKING NEWS:

Due to the lack of a 2/3 vote, 3 proposed changes to the
St. Mary Parish Charter have been scratched, well,
as least for now.

The St. Mary Parish Council met last night in Franklin,
and voted 7 to 3 to 1, in a favor of two of the changes, which
called for a pay raises and term limits for the council
and for the parish president.

But due to the lack of a 2/3 vote, 8 members
of the council would have had to vote for the
measures, in order for them to pass.

There were 3 measures in all, one calling for term limits
on the parish council, one calling for pay raises for the parish
council, and another calling for a pay raise for the
parish president.

Councilman Glen Hidalgo of Bayou Vista, sponsored all
3 of the measures.

When he introduced the first one, which called for
term limits on the parish council, it did not have
a second by any other councilman, so it failed automatically.

Councilmen Albert Foulcard of Franklin, Chuck
Walters of Amelia and Kevin Voisin of Morgan
City, were against giving the parish council
and the parish pay raises.

And Councilmen Gary Duhon of Morgan City,
Butch Middleton of Franklin, Craig Matthews of
Four Corners, Glen Hidalgo of Bayou Vista, Steve
Bierhorst of Patterson, David Hannigriff of
Centerville, and Ken Singleton of Patterson, all
voted for the pay raises for the council and for
the parish president.

Councilman Logan Fromenthal of Morgan City
was absent from the meeting, and therefore,
could not make a decision on any of the proposed
measures.

If the council would have passed the recommendations
for pay raises at last night's meeting,
voter's would have had the final say in
whether or not they would have been approved,
this fall, during the congressional elections.
